Turnkey project
The green nest collaborates with people who wish to transform an above ground space into a garden. There are several challenges associated with the landscaping of perennial
gardens on terraces, balconies and rooftops in a Nordic environment. The green nest team uses a holistic approach that takes into account these restrictions to create
a green oasis that matures over years.
The turnkey formula includes a comprehensive service from the design to the realization of an above ground garden. It includes the landscaping plan, the construction of
custom-made garden boxes, and the planting of a selection of vegetation appropriate for the space. Our turnkey projects will transform a condominium terrace into a
greenspace in the city.
Site analysis
A first meeting serves to determine our clients’ expectations and to examine the outdoor space. The use of the space is defined (resting space, small breakfast
nook, cocktail garden, outdoor kitchen, entertaining), as is the garden's style (sleek, clean lines or wild and unpredictable, cold or warm color schemes, sunny
or shaded), vistas to frame (a fabulous neighbouring tree or view of the horizon) and features to hide (curious neighbours, apartment blocks, electric posts, or
offensive noises). Our client’s capacity and interest in maintaining the garden as well as their budget is discussed in order to orient the selection of plants
and materials.
Plans
In the second visit, our clients are presented with a proposition of a basic plan. We finalize the selection of planter materials and vegetation. A chalk drawing
of the plan on the outdoor space is drawn to help visualize the future space before ordering building materials. Outdoor furniture can also be explored at this stage.
Construction of planters
The realization of the project includes the design, fabrication, insulation and installation of custom planters. Possible materials include treated pine, cedar, ipe or
garapa woods. Planters may also be constructed of aluminum, galvanized or stainless steel in natural colors or powder coated. They are insulated with extruded polystyrene
panels. Ready-made planters can also be ordered.
Plantation
Once the planters are in place, insulation and drainage materials are installed and the planters are filled with appropriate soil. Since soil cannot be delivered in bulk
on a terrace or roof, each 30L bag of soil must be carried up. Once the planters are filled and the soil allowed to settle, the vegetation is planted; the effect of this
last step on the space is remarkable.
