Home service advice
In this home service, we share our knowledge with our clients to work with existing structures and vegetation in order to exploit its assets while respecting the space's constraints.
Evaluation of the space
A small rectangular balcony, a large terrace with fragmented spaces, triangular areas or even spaces with awkward obstacles; they can all be turned into gardens! By
taking the sun's orientation into account, as well as the direction of the prevailing winds, snow coverage and access to water and electricity, we can transform an
outdoor space into a green nest.
Selection of vegetation
When it comes to choosing plants for container gardens, caution should be exercised. The green nest can make recommendations in the selection of species that can
tolerate the harsh environment of an above ground garden in Canadian hardiness zone 5. From ground cover to shrubs and trees, from grasses to perennials, our clients
receive advice on preferred plants and those to avoid.
Selection of planters
Planters play an important role in the health of our plants and in the aesthetics of a garden. The green nest gives advice on drainage, insulation, size and
shape of the most appropriate planters for the garden
Ideas to enhance a space
Sometimes an outside perspective is beneficial for finding the assets of a space. When one has the good fortune of having a view of the horizon, it should be
exploited by framing it with vegetation, all the while keeping in mind the maximal size of the plants. Our team will also borrow neighbouring attributes; a beautiful
maple, a garden, the facade of an attractive house or historic building, and incorporate these vistas into the garden. Decorative pieces can be introduced to
contribute to the aesthetic of the garden. A strategically placed mirror can reflect much needed light into a shaded garden; a trellis to support climbing plants;
soft lighting or even a sculpture can express one's artistic sensitivities.
Views to hide
Unless one lives in the country or along a beachfront, our outdoor spaces are often polluted by offensive views over which we have little control. The addition of
vegetation in our immediate space is often sufficient to captivate our gaze and forget the offending view. In some cases, heteroclite materials (walls of different
textures and colours, pipes or posts) can almost disappear by painting them a uniform colour. The canopy of a small vase-shaped tree eclipses tall surrounding buildings,
and even urban noises can be attenuated by the sound of a small fountain.
Maintenance advice
We are proud of our projects and pay particular attention to ensuring their perpetuity across the years. With the home service advice plan, we provide information on
how to maintain the garden. From pruning to winter protection of more delicate species, from watering to weeding, we want our clients to enjoy the time they spend in
their gardens.
